EDGE Coffee ShopA recap of our year…

In May 2015, Edgcumbes opened the doors to their brand new Roastery and on-site EDGE Coffee Shop at Ford, West Sussex, which has become a haven for coffee and tea lovers throughout the region.

Edgcumbes is an award- winning company which has been supplying many cafés and restaurants in Sussex during its 35 year history. Director Alice Rendle says, ‘last year we invested in a larger coffee roaster and refurbished an old Dutch Barn to allow us to sell our products direct to the public. We built a small café / shop at the Roastery and this has got progressively busier as people discover us and try out our freshly roasted coffees and loose leaf teas. They can also buy coffee and tea making kit to take home with them!’

The shop is open 7 days a week, and we are now roasting daily on our 15kg traditional drum coffee roaster to meet the growing demand from the general public. Coffees from all over the world are available – including premium beans from Ethiopian, Kenya, Guatemala, Colombia – either as single origins or blended to order.

Tea lovers are not forgotten either! The shop stocks over 40 loose leaf teas which are available to buy or try in the café.EDGE Coffee Shop

Café manager/ Barista Jay Bull comments ‘We are now a nation of coffee drinkers, and it is wonderful to see how many people are making our EDGE café part of their daily routine – once you taste fresh coffee, it is hard to go back to stale coffee that may have been roasted months ago. Coffee is a fresh product, like bread, and should be consumed within a few weeks of roasting. Luckily, our customers know that this is the case and can taste the difference! Our range of coffees is never more than 7 days old and available to buy in 250gm bags from £5, in beans or ground to order.’

These products can be found at Edgcumbes Roastery and Take-Away Shop, which is open Monday to Friday 7am – 5pm and Saturday & Sunday 9.30am – 4pm

Alice concludes ‘it has been a roller-coaster year for Edgcumbes – we started 35 years ago wholesaling coffee and tea, and in the past 12 months we now have a full time Roastery, a retail café and shop and a brand new e-commerce website. We were delighted to be on the final shortlist for the Sussex Small Business of the Year 2015 award, and we even won two Great Taste awards for our freshly roasted coffees!’
