Coffee & Tea Specialist Edgcumbes is proud to announce that we are extending our fabulous offer to a site in Chichester. After some caffeine-fuelled deliberation and planning we have decided to live life on the EDGE and take up residence in a converted vintage Citroen HY van in the up-and-coming Drapers Yard, located conveniently near the Cattle Market car park and at the bottom of East Street.

What to expect?

We believe that fresh is best, and that includes coffee and tea, which has been locally roasted and hand blended.

The offer is simple: really great coffee and tea. Alongside a selection of locally produced sweet treats and snacks, we will be selling our freshly roasted coffee and loose leaf teas both to drink at the yard and to take home. A knowledgeable barista will always available to provide specialist information on our coffee blends, loose leaf teas and to advise on home brewing. So, whether you are a coffee making veteran or a beginner in search of the perfect brew, EDGEpresso! is the place to be.

When to expect it?

EDGEpresso! can officially call Drapers Yard home from Tuesday 3rd July. We will be there Tuesdays to Saturdays between 10am and 4pm.

What makes EDGEpresso! different?

Chichester is abundant in great coffee offers but we believe that Edgcumbes, with its decades of experience in Roasting and Blending, can guarantee that the drinks served at the EDGEpresso! van will consistently taste amazing due to the freshness of the beans and the taste that only loose leaf tea can give.

Talk to our friendly team, who will be on hand to advise you on brewing methods, and recommend a range of single origin and blended coffee and teas for use at home..

So, if you love great coffee, tea and shopping local, come & meet us in our new home: Drapers Yard, 16 The Hornet, Chichester, PO19 7JG

See you there!

Gemma and the Edgcumbes Team!

Great Taste Award Winners 2017!

We are delighted to announce that for the third year running we have won a Great Taste Award for not one but TWO of our wonderful hand roasted speciality blend coffees. For the past three years we have won awards for our coffee and teas, and this year is no exception.

Great Taste Winners - Sussex Barn & Riverside

Our Edgcumbes signature blend Sussex Barn espresso beans have been awarded 2 STARS along with our Riverside blend winning a very respectable 1 STAR!

Riverside ()“Well-balanced, refined coffee. Pleasant nutmeg-spiced start and a real, creamy sweetness. Delivers on the caramel finish.  A strong chocolate flavour.”

Sussex Barn (★★)“The beans display a good even colour in roasting. There is a green shoot freshness on the nose. Then, as described, the taste develops through the berries and into a balanced finish of chocolate and slightly toasted nuts. The finish is fresh and lingers very pleasantly. An excellent, brilliantly made coffee!”

Well, we love the fruity language of the judges! Why don’t you judge for yourself? Regulars to the Edge Café at the Roastery near Arundel will already be familiar with the Sussex Barn, which is our signature house blend – a mix of Guatemalan, Ethiopian and Columbian beans.Caffeine Addicts

Our café is open 7 days a week from 7am-5pm weekdays and 9.30am-5pm at the weekends. Building works are currently in progress and in late November we hope to open our new Edge Café with plenty of indoor seating!

We will be serving a range of sandwiches along with our famous brownies, flapjacks and our knockout coffee stout cake. The conversion of this former stable will also include a specially designed space to share our enthusiasm for food and craft where you can enjoy courses on coffee, baking, chocolate-making and even creating greetings cards from coffee sacks!

What is the Great Taste? – The Great Taste, organised by the Guild of Fine Food, is the acknowledged benchmark for fine food and drink. It has been described as the ‘Oscars’ of the food world and the epicurean equivalent of the Man Booker prize. We are therefore quite simply over the moon to be awarded and recognised as a producer of quality fine coffee.

We believe that simply fresh is best and you can’t get fresher than straight from our own Roastery. Have you tried our award winning blends?

Not in Sussex or able to pass by the Edge Shop/Café? Then buy online!

Edgcumbes – Proud supporters of the Gurkha Welfare Trust !

Edgcumbes is a family business – the Roastery and Café are often manned by sons, husbands and friends  who all share a passion for freshly roasted coffee! In between travels , university and careers , we often see people passing through our lives at one stage or another.

It is often strange how connections are made and how we make sense of our increasingly busy world.

Recently a long standing family friend visited us on his way through Sussex, and we got talking over a glass or two about the work he is doing to promote and raise awareness of the Ghurka Welfare Trust. Many Nepalese families have direct connections with the UK, and the charity does an enormously important job of ensuring that the veterans and their families can be supported when they return home to their native land.

It is the practical element of the charity that appeals to us- finding homes, building community centres and offering financial aid are crucial.  A close family member has spent 3 years working in Nepal at a Tig

coffee, tea and the Gurkha Welfare Trust – great combo!

er Sanctuary and Charlie, one of our lovely café baristas, has just told me that his great, great grandfather was a Gurkha- he mentioned something about being allowed to play with his Kukri knife as a young child – I didn’t ask for the details.

However, I urge you to take a look at the GWT  site (www.gwt.org.uk) which has some heart-warming stories and spectacular images courtesy of www.johnnyfenn.co.uk

Today a rather large parcel arrived filled with all sorts of goodies for us to share with everyone – we are now OFFICIAL supporters which sounds very grand but actually means that we can now accept donations from visitors to the EDGE café and shop. Lots of badges, wristbands and donation boxes! Anything that can be popped into one of the boxes – strategically placed by the till – will find a home somehow, somewhere in Nepal!

We have some plans to source speciality coffee in the coming months- this is a small, but growing industry in Nepal and there is certainly scope for us to roast some lovely coffees !

From one British Institution – our great British cuppa – to a proud Nepali institution – both linked together via the Gurkhas.  Let’s all celebrate the fact that there can be deep and meaningful friendships between nations!
