After travelling through Africa and India as a young man searching out the best teas, Christopher Rendle returned to the UK – still aged 24, got married, realised that the game was up and that the time had come to settle down...

The company was founded by him in 1979, but it took until 1981 to persuade his father to return from the Indian subcontinent to join him – all those chota and burra pegs* just kept him hooked.

Over the past three decades the UK has seen an incredible transformation on the high street. The café culture has grown rapidly, and speciality coffee and teas are more than an ‘affordable luxury’ – they are now considered an essential part of everyday life.
