Established in 1981, Edgcumbes was originally a tea merchant, set up by father and son, Frank and Christopher Rendle. Christopher was a professional tea taster for a company with 80 tea estates spanning Africa, Sri Lanka and India. His father spent over 30 years in the Far East in commodities trading. Realizing how poor catering teas were generally, they saw a gap in the market for good quality loose tea. This launched their business and Edgcumbes soon gained a reputation for its superior teas delivered with excellent after-care service. Like any small company, it was literally started on the kitchen table with a set of scales and some white paper bags. A unique blend of tea was created and twenty five years on our Rusper tea remains one of the most popular in our extensive range. In 1986 Alice Rendle, Christopher’s wife stepped in to head up the flourishing company and over the last fifteen years the company has grown and developed into one of the leading tea and coffee merchants in the South East of England. Today we now offer a huge range of coffees and teas along with the associated products.
